I might have a line on a pretty good '04 Lariat. The Km's (miles) are right and the price is decent.
My only apprehension is the fact that it's a 2004. I have re-read a lot of posts on here, and it seems like the consensus is that if you can avoid buying a 2004, it would be a smart choice.
Should this really concern me? I know that not all '04's have bugs, but would an '05 really be that much better?
Please help with this..
Also.. Side note.. As far as off-road and 4x4 capability, would the Lariat and Fx4 be pretty much the same except for the skid plates and shocks?
Well when I first started looking I was just going to find myself a nice 2004, I had decided that I’d find one that was built in 04 as most of the recalls seemed to pertain to 2003 build vehicles. Yes there are a lot of good 04’s out there, but that year probably has more bad ones then 05. Get an Oasis on it from the dealer and if it’s clean go for it. Yes, the lariat will be just as capable off road as the Fx4.
I just bought an 04 a month ago with less than 10,000 miles. It was a repo out of Michigan. The price seemed very good and the truck is immaculate. It still has balance of factory warranty and i bought extended warranty.

I looked at 04's, 05's, and left over 06's. I ended up with a low mileage 04 FX4. The price was right, it has the remainder of the factory warranty & I can always buy an extended warranty if I choose.
I have an 04 Lariat Screw and the thing has been rock solid (with the exception of dropping a vleve into the block three weeks ago). This is not exclusive to the 2004 model year and most likely a result of a Friday afternoon engine. Nothing to be done about it except to suck it up and fix it, as the milage is almost double the warrentee allotment.
I talked to a part's person about it and it is not an unheard of problem with the F150's and he had heard of it on 05's and a few 06's as well.
Anyway, other than this, it has been by far the best truck I have ever owned. (I've had a 1999 and a 1990 as well)
An oasis is like carfax or similar to it gives you all the history of the truck if it was in accident all the repairs that where done to it by a ford dealer under warranty etc
i bought a 04 lariat screw, and i love it! real great truck. i've had it for about 7 months, but the guy that had it before me took care of it. i've had one problem with the third brake light, but i got some info from other members off the site and fixed it without spending hardly any money. but over all i'm real happy with this truck.
Not to hijack my own thread or anything,
But does the FX4 have a beefier 'cooler' for the tranny? (or something along those lines)...
would the Lariat have that?
Sorry about all the ignorance, but I'm not very mechanical

Hey dyna..
The tow package will add the tranny cooler and upgraded battery to any of the packages ex...FX4 and Lariat. The FX4 just has Rancho shocks and skidplates and a more sporty looking interior, the Lariat is just gonna have leather and factory shocks..not rancho but there is not much different maybe softer ride with the factory shocks. Also the Lariat comes with Auto climate control and a message center in the dash that shows outside temp's plus heated seats. The real question is....Go sporty(FX4) or go classy(Lariat).
