hi, everyone...
i just have a question..can i put HID bulbs on a 95f150..and not do damage do my headlight assembly...i have some clear headlights from ebay with some blue bulbs.but i really like HIDs and i was just wondering
I'm pretty sure you can do it.....but everything i see says you probly won't see much of a difference in light output unless you upgrade the wiring harness too. Seems the stock wiring isn't made to handle the extra load and can even burn up.
Do a search here and you should find a mod for adding relays and changing where the lights get their power......."ie" directly off the battery versus from the light switch itself.
Good Luck
Any HID replacement bulb you can buy that claims to be a direct replacement for the stock halogens is not a real HID. Real HID lights use high voltage.. thousands of volts, and require a balast like a flourescent fixture to step up the 12v supply. The downside is the balast drives the price up to several hundred dollars for the conversion kits I have seen. HID lights are significantly brighter and whiter than anything halogen.
Right. It's impossible to buy $20 bulbs and expect them to be HID. Basically, what you get for $20 are blue-tinted lights. The tinting reduces the amount of light output, so you won't be able to see as well. They try to make up for this by making the bulb brighter, but this draws more current than the harness was designed for.
From what I understand the real HID conversion kits user the factory connectors but draw much much less current than even the stock headlight bulbs. I don't think that a real HID conversion kit would hurt your factory wiring at all. I've seen complete kits on ebay that are H7 for around $120.00 and come with a warranty.
jnye6625..i think ur absolutely right...the HIDs only draw about 35w..so replacing all your wiring isnt necessary...my 95f150 uses the 9007 kit which is 119..no taxes no shipping cost..pretty good for me
currently i have the blue tint bulbs..but one of my friends has those same bulbs with the clear headlights..and man it look bada*s...i already bougth the HIDs today...the light output is amazing..i was just at his house right now..and i u just compare the difference..HIDs r the ****
i have a set of 8000k hid's in my 95 f150. they are bright as hell and have no issues except people pulling over and letting me go. then high beaming me like it bothers me cause im high up
Here is my experience with HID. The wire harness does need to be replaced. These bulbs when starting up actually draw MORE power current then you OEM halogen bulbs. This causes wear on your hardness and can eventually lead to failure or even worse a fire. Be smart and put them on a relay system or upgraded harness. Second, the housing in our trucks may it be clear or OEM are not meant for HID's. Hid's need to be in a housing that causes a cut off either from the housing or a projector. If you notice, HID houses have the Extruded Center piece to help disperse the light within the housing verses if you put it in our housing the middle of your beam patern is brighter then the outside portion. This will cause other drivers much problems with driving infront of you, or in on coming traffic. And is unsafe. For our trucks they dront make much in the way of HID housing, so you need to get a clear lense housing and install a bi-xenon projector. This will give you Hi beam/ Low beam (50 state requirement) and also the beam pattern and cut-off needed to keep other drivers safe.
