What size valves in those CJ heads? You might have some clearance/shrouding problems using them on the 360/390 block.

I think he will have valve shrouding problems, depending on how far the cylinders have been overbored. Stock bore = shrouded, .030" over = marginal, .060" over = probably ok, .080" over = standard 428 bore and definately ok.

I dont know too much about the suspension, but I can help with your motor! First, get that regular Performer off of there. Suck. Put a Performer RPM or some form of single plane on there for racing purposes. There's also other good manufacturers of intakes like Dove or Blue Thunder if you've got the money. Second, port those cylinder heads! A professional job would be best, but a startling improvement can be made at home if you know what you're doing. With the way these things flow with a bit of porting, the only thing Edelbrock heads are good for is weight reduction. Third, change the rear gear! I'd say 3.50 or 3.70 would be good. Fourth, I saw nothing in your post about headers. If you aren't running headers, get some! Trust me, the stock manifolds are absolute performance killers.

While I have no direct experience with drag racing, I would think it's realtively simple to get a basic setup going. I would think you'd want to transfer as much weight to the rear as possible on launch, especially in a truck. As such, you'd probably want a fairly soft rear suspension. Other than that, wide stickey slicks!

I what to say bore is 4.080( 0.030) and I do have headers. Heads 2.09/1.65, ported back in 70s by well know engine builder(holman-moody).Can cylinders or cambers be ground to unshroud Valves. I was wondering about intake and carb. Had 4.11 in rear wheel spin and 60 ft times in 2.70s if I remember correctly, motor didn,t seem to pull as hard with 4.11s. with 9.40s 1/8th best time

The cylinders can be notched for the valves. That'll help.

The carb you have should work fine. You have my recommendations for the intake.

It probably didn't seem to pull as hard with the 4.11's due to wheel spin!

Thanks . I'm looking a intake now saw several edelbrock street masters on ebay know any thing about those. On 67-72 forum had question able suspension. think I'll try a set of 90/10 in front and 50/50 in rear with caltrac bars to help stop wheel spin and hop. how wide and how far down bore due notches need to be.

The Edelbrock Streetmaster isn't a bad intake, and can be modified for racing use. Do a search on here, as I took the time and typed up the full modification instructions a while ago.

I cant help with the suspension. I'll leave that to the racers on here.
