Thumbs up Muffler delete pipe installed. Pics in gallery

Well I got the muffler delete pipe installed today. I ordered it from Pure diesel power and it was around $70. It took me roughly 2 hours. Could have been less time but I removed all the piping from the cat back to make sure I did it right (measure twice and cut once) The sound is much better than stock. Idling it has a slight bit more rumble and turbo whistle. The exhaust does sound much better if you get on it and sounds great after 2000 rpm!

I do think I will eventually remove the cat after warranty is up.....

Pictures are in my gallery if anyone wants to see.

why wait on the cat? pure diesel power has a cat delete pipe that just bolts right in. its an easy unbolt the cat and bolt in the delete pipe.and if you need to just bolt the cat back in .the turbo whistle is even more pronounced.and it seems to reduce turbo lag.it's a great thing.

Nice work! I enjoy the growl, I'm sure you will too. It's hard to stay out of the throttle now!

I want to wait on the cat because I have been having some problems with the truck and the shop manager at the dealership told me to leave the cat due to warranty. He has no issues with a programmer or the muffler delete. I know I can bolt the cat back in with that delete pipe but for now I will just leave it in and not chance it.....

Thanks! If you do it yourself it isn't bad at all. I just took my time and it worked out. I may get it welded yet but the clamps were easy to install.

isn't the muffler delete pipe meant to go from where the first clamp is on the stock muffler (front) to the rear of the muffler, cut close to the muffler?
i lined mine up the other day, looks like the muffler delete pipe is plenty long enough to slide in and use the stock clamp location and then just put a new clamp where the rear of the muffler is now.
so you cut the muffler delete pipe down a bit?
i haven't done mine yet but plan to soon

The delete pipe I got was too short to go from the clamped flange at the front of the muffler to just at the end of the muffler if you cut it short. I cut the muffler about 1 1/2" from the back end and then if I were to cut off 33" ahead of that (the length of the delete pipe from inner flange to inner flange) then I would have been cutting in the middle of the pipe where the clamp holder was welded on. That is why I went thru the hassle that I did cutting off the roughly 5'' on the pipe ahead to try to keep that clamp.

I would have thought that the delete pipe would have been the right length that it would just bolt in from the front flange of the muffler to just after where I cut......but it wasn't

I couldn't figure out why your delete pipe looked different than mine does(done by local shop). Then I took a closer look at it. On mine the shop used the front piece of pipe from the muffler, but cut the hanger off, rotated the piece 180 degrees to line up with the tail pipe, then welded the hanger back on. This allowed the use of the straight pipe. Maybe this will help someone out who is doing their own.....

I think i'll try and save that hanger too, makes for more splices in the end but at least you aren't trying to fabricate a hanger if the stock one in the front is cut out.

that is a nice way to do it too. I had checked around here for a shop to install but nobody could bend 3 1/2" pipe. The way you had it done eliminates any bending. The way I did it wasn't bad, just more cutting.

I wondered what his reasoning is but I wasn't going to argue....should I be?
