My truck is a 94 F-150 flareside 4x4 and is currently powered by a rebuilt 351 with a HO Mustang cam, long tube headers, dual exhaust, and K&N filter. I cleaned up the ports on the heads and port matched the intake. I like the power from this motor so much that I now want to swap a 351 into my 5.0 Mustang. I came across a 460 EFI with transmission so I got thinking about dropping the 460 into my truck and using my 351 for my Stang. How much would I benefit from the 460 with the same type of set up as my 351?
I forgot to mention that it is mainly just a street truck but does see some offroading and is rairly used for towing. If it helps any, 3.55 gears, manual tranny, 33" tires.
Think in the 100 HP and 150 Ft/Lbs range. To get more is easy as long as you match the components to work together. But will more power comes more cost, the 460 will drink more fuel as well.
if you had an older 460 you could rebuild it for mileage and get the same 13-14 mpg,but being efi it wont get as good of mileage... i dont know why but efi 460s dont seem to get much better than 12 mpg even in good tune. carb 460s in older trucks ive heard of getting as good as 18-19 mpg highway.
