Is there a simple way to make the side clearance lites on long trailers flash the same as the rear turn signals. This might wake up stupid drivers so they take notice that your are turning to the right and don't pull between the trailer and curb.
They don't seem to take notice that the turn signals are working, indicating your intentions to make a right turn.(worst side) I plan on getting two of those arrowed turn signal lites and swapping out the clearance lites in the middle of the trailer.
There has to be a simple way of showing that you are turning right, while leaving the enough room to make the corner.
The problem with this one is that the power for the side markers is from the headlights circuit and the turn signal is attached to the brake light. You would have to use a small brake light with a dual filament lamp (one for marker and the other for brake). Most of the ones I've seen stick out a ways and would be ugly and would have a tendacy to get broken off. Great idea though. Or you could attach another side marker light under the current marker and wire it to the turn signal circuit.
I am an over the road truck driver. On my semi i have 4 turn signals down the side of the truck, Rear of trailer, middle of trailer, back of tractor, on front fender that faces the rear. I still get stupid people that try and cut up the side when i swing wide to make a right turn. No amount of lights will cure stupidity.
Being that I am challenged in this area, how about giving this articule the once over and providing your thoughts, there has to be something more a person can do!
It does work. I did that to the front corners of my 2001 Ranger. Would flash at the same time when headlight switch was off. Would alternatly flash when the park or headlights were on. Only downside to it is the marker lamp is now dimmer, since it doesn't go directly to ground, but goes through the filament of the turn signal bulb to ground.
Adding a flashing marker light won't be enough for them to see, would be best to add a actual turn signal, made for trailers.
