Coolant Leaking, any ideas?
Coolant Leaking, any ideas?
Hi guys,
This has probably been answered on other posts, but I couldn't find a similar topic. I have an 04 6.0 in an Excursion 4x4, with 48,000 miles. I occasionally tow a travel trailer. Off and on now I have noticed coolant leaking/residue at the top of the degas bottle, just bellow the cap. I have routinely observe it and and sometimes it appears to leak and other times its dry. Today I checked and noticed the coolant level almost empty and lots of residue around cap. I added almost a gallon of 50/50 Motorcraft coolant to bring the level above the low fill line. There is no evidence of it puking all over the engine compartment, just residue around the cap and degas bottle. Thinking I had a bad cap I purchased a new coolant cap as well. A little bit of driving today and I saw some more evidence of leaking. On another trip to the store this eveneing I checked and it was dry. I do not have any mods to the truck and I have owned it since new. Any ideas before I take it to my dealership would be appreciated.

Go to the top of this screen. look under recall/tsb's, go to full text tsb, look under your year and model. It will give you a brief explination of a problem. click on the tsb # and it will give you great detail. I've seen your question answered there.
Thanks for the reply! That was very helpful, I sure hope its not head gaskets! If it is, I paid for the extra 7/100,000 warranty, so that will definitely pay for itself. I wasn't aware of that section, lots of info..
