1963 or 1964

Hey everyone, Just got my first truck. got 2 1/2 years to get her all fixed up before I'm legal to drive. But I got a question. I ran my VIN# right here on this site and it says it was made in DECEMBER 1963 but I was told that ir was a 1964 when I bought it. So when I take this bill of sale and get my title will it be a 1963 or 1964. I really dont care but would like to know the actual model so that when I order parts they are right. Is there another place besides the door that I can find the VIN# ya know anyone can change a door.

By the way any suggestions on how to fix her up will be great. NEver done anything like this. She still has the 223 engine in her. HAve to change out the tranny though. But going to put a standard back in. want her as original as I can get.
THanks
Matt

From what I can tell you have a 1964. The best way to fix her up is, well you can start by looking at the galleries for the 64 year, look at all and see what you like or want, then devise a budget and a plan. 2 1/2 years is plenty of time if you have the time and money. I'm going on 5 years and still working on mine.

Good luck with your build.
I'm glad there's still hope for the youth's of today

Welcome to the board. Take the time to search past posts and research your truck through the internet as well. The biggest delema will be to make it all stock or a restomod truck. Stock means your keeping everything as it was coming out of the factory. A restomod will allow you to update certain systems to make it safer to drive without altering the overall appearance. There are some articles that you can read to help you chose what you want to do. Most of them are simple bolt ons or minor upgrades. If you look at the top of the webpage you'll see a bunch of tabs. Follow them to different areas of the site. Take into concideration all the aspects of the truck you have envisioned in your mind. If you decide to upgrade one area of the truck think about the other ones that need to be upgraded with it. For example, if you install a V8 you'll end up going faster. So how are you going to stop it when the little old lady decides to pull out in front of you with questionable brakes? See what I am getting at. Think the whole process through and budget for the other upgrades with it.

As for what year, Robert has it right, it's a 64. The factory had to build the truck before the new model year for it to be on showroom floors. Kind of like now, the new 2008 vehicles will start selling in late summer early fall 2007.

Again welcome to FTE. Ask as many questions as you need.

Thanks so much guys. I really dont care whats on the title I just wanted to be able to get the right parts. Right now I'm looking for a core support, grille, and the piece that goes under the grille and hides behined the bumper. And I need to replace the passanger side step that is right infront of the step side fender. thats it really for outside besides the wood in the bed. I would like to replace the hood but really dont have too.

Oh, I do have a question. How do I adjust the doors? THey pop when i open them and rumb on the fender.

Thanks guys, I'm just a kid but fell in love with this truck and know nothing about what to do.
What year model parts will interchange?
Later,
Matthew

Lift the door up and down when open. If it moves replace the hinges.

There are a lot of adjustments that can be made to the door if the hinges aren't worn out. Here's a list the different spots on the door and cab that can be loosened and moved.
1. Where the hinge attaches to the cab you'll see a few bolts. Loosen to move the door in and out on the front edge.
2. Rectangle cover held on by 2 screws on inboard face of the door panel. Under the cover there are a few bolts that move the door forward and aft in the cab opening.
3. Cab latch. Loosen the 3 screws to move this around to set how far in or out the rear edge of the door stops.
4. Door latch. Loosen the screws to align it with the cab latch.

The door can be adjusted to move forward and aft, angled to fit the cab opening, in or out to align with the adjacent body panels, and how much force it takes to shut the door and latch. It helps to have another person to help hold the door while you tighten the hardware. Also I use a plastic wedge to help guage the same gap between panels. It can be a pain to align at times but you will get the hang of it.
