I am not sure myself, but they have interchange manuals, and if several said the same thing, I would take their word for it.

If I'm not mistakin the columns are the same and thats because the stifter are the same, meaning on the AOD the they have 1 2 and D with a cirle around it and you cant acually shift in all 4 gears just 3 like a standard automatic

Let me try to make this as clear as mud............

From 1980-1986 all automatic transmission steering columns are the same.....except the wire harness.

The shifter has no idea what kind of automatic you have and does not care because the column shift (mounting hole) for the transmission linkage were all the same to reduce cost. Ford did away with the 3-On-The-Tree in 1980, the only column shift from 1980 forward is for an automatic transmission.

If you have an AOD transmission you need the AOD gear selector, if you have a C6 you need the C6 gear selector. The gear selector is only a visual and can be adjusted for proper needle point for each gear.

The wire harness on the column is NOT factory pre-wired for cruise control. You need a column from an F-Series Truck (or Full Size Bronco) that came with factory cruise control .

You can NOT convert a rigid steering column to a tilt column.

So, the bottom line is that you need a tilt column for a 1980-1986 F-Series truck (or Full Sized Bronco) with automatic transmission. If you have factory cruise control, or want to add it later, tell them you have cruise control. They don't need to know what type automatic transmission you have.

I have a 82 F 100 that came with the 3 speed manual shifter on the column. I bought it new.
