I have an 84 Bronco w/ a mildly built 351W. I was wondering, does an aftermarket ignition like a MSD make that big of a difference. Also where is my ignition now. Don't mean to sound dumb, but just wonder if it would make that much differece and where it even is.
Not in the seat of the pants to much. But you might gain a little on your fuel mileage. I have the MSD 6A box on my 89 302. I see little gains on each modification I make. MSD box I saw a little gain. Msd TFI ignition coil I saw some more gain. Then 9mm Ford Racing wires I saw some more gain. I'm sure if you dinoed your truck you would see a difference there. Just don't expect it to be a major seat of the pants improvement. My 2 cents worth.
He is correct on the little by little improvements.
as for location well its all over the place realy
ignition consits of plugs, plug wires, coil, distributer go with a staterles distributer (you currently have a stater), distributer mid section, distributer cap, rotter, and an ignition modual.
total cost can be around $150-$250 depending on what you go with.
your ignition coil should be on the drivers side wheel well.
hope you know where the other stuff is. but before you replace youre distributer get a chilton book first and for GODs sake dont let any one crank your truck with it out. my wife did and I didnt know it made a 30 min swap int a whole day afair cause she didnt tell me she
correct timming is 10 deggress BTDC.
hope this helps (distributer has all them wires going to it from plugs LOL)
