Running board/dome light

My truck didn't come with factory running boards, so I got some Westin's as indicated on this site (thanks). I did a search here- but can't find a thread that indicates where to grab the dome light- so the running board light comes on with the keyless entry or the door opening (dome light comes on with either).

Where and what color do I grab that? Westin's directions indicated it might be underneath "somewhere". Thanks.
John

(Cool forum by the way!)

Well in my 03,i tapped into the wire near the bottom of the door.(not on the door, but on the truck).Theres a plastic piece that just pulls off(up).I took a test light to find the right wire.
But i took power from the batt,to a relay.I just used the wire as a trip wire to activate the relay.

Nothing underneath the chassis- except a large bundle going to the back of the truck.

Under the door sill (inside the cab, the sill you would step on to get in), removed the plastic sill there are about 10 wires in the tray running the length of the cab. I didn't ID any that came on/off with dome light- but did find two that were hot all the time. Its a tough to prob them with the door closed with my fat butt...

There is a wire there that will lite up with door open and off when door closed.Again i could look at mine and tell you what color wire, but not the same year.So the wire might not be the same color.
I found the fuse for the dome lights, then went and probed. When i found a hot one,i pulled the fuse.
When i found the wire that did that,i put the fuse back in,and left the door open. The GEM will turn off the dome light after a little while. If the test light goes out then thats your wire.

The wire isnt under the truck,it right under the panel, where you step to get in the truck,on the drivers side.

Bingo- found it. It is right where you said; in the cable run inside the door sill*; 18 gauge Black with a Blue stripe.

*open the driver door. Remove the plastic cover that goes over the threshold, right where the weatherstrip meets the carpet. Under that is a trough, that has a large cable bundle. It divides at the driver's seat, some going to the seat, the rest going aft. In the aft bundle is where the Black/Blue wire is.

I feel like I contributed- but you had the where!
