Going synthetic
I am thinking of changing my 2002 SD over to all synthetic fluids. Could I have some input from you guys as to brand, weights and problems to look out for. My truck has about 120k on it. I hope I haven't weighted to long ?

Do it, you won't be sorry. I went to syn a while ago and never looked back. I use rotella 5w40 year round in my PSD. I changed at 160K miles with no trouble. It is much quieter and easier to start cold, even @ -24F it fired with very little 'romp, romp, romp". All my other vehicles are now syn, even my 9n ford tractor and riding lawn mower.
I changed the trans, tranfercase, diffs and even the PS pump. IMO, this increased my MPG too!

I put Rotella synthetic in after I got my truck. I have not noticed it being any quieter, but it definitely does start easier when cold. With whatever the previous owner had it would take two cycles of glow plugs and then romp and shake for a few seconds (at about 5 Farenheit). Now it almost always starts on the first cycle and when it starts it just starts without the theatrics.
