rebuild question

This is my first post on here.

I have a 94 150 that is my off road truck. 6in BDS lift, swapped out 8.8 for a 9in with 4.56s and a detroit locker. IFS still up front with a powertrax locker. And a bunch of other goodies.

Anyway I dont know squat about engines. the only thing ive ever had to do with mine is replace the head gasket and a torn engine mount.

My truck has been sitting at my parents for two years now, (I got married and had kids). Im thinking about selling my 01 5.9 cummins because I no longer need it, (used to work construction). But I still want a truck and I have really missed my ford.

Getting to the point. Whats it going to take to put her back on the road or trail as it were. I dont want to do any engine work, if i have to take it to a shop so be it (I know some guys that do really good work). Im not worried about anything else I think I should be able to handle it. I was just wondering what the engine will take?
It had been started about once a week for the first 8-9 months but my dad let that go after I got busy with the kids and stopped asking about it.

Any one got a ball park figure, Im on a leash and its not all that long.

Things I would do - this is my second attempt at this.
1) change oil and filter
2) drain at least one fuel tank and replace with fresh fuel; replace fuel filter.
3) I would do this, but get other opinions - mark distributor base and rotor on No. 1 compression stroke - pull distributor and with the proper screwdriver bit in a drill turn oil pump to prime oil passages and bearings. Reinstall distributor to marks (do not turn engine with distributor removed).
4) clean/replace distributor cap and rotor when removed above.
5) pull and clean/replace spark plugs, then squirt oil into all cylinders to lubricate rings. Reinstall plugs.
6) Do a thorough inspection for animal carcasses, droppings, nests and foodstuff in all conceivable areas; air filter box, intakes, exhaust pipes etc. Check wires for evidence of gnawing also.
At this point, you should be able to turn it over without damage
Good luck.
Anyone else with corrections, comments etc just jump in and have a ball.

Unless the truck has been stored in a very humid/damp area I wouldn't go thru the distributor removal process.I would remove the coil wire, spin it over a few times the reconnect the coil and start it.I've started engines that have were in storage far longer by doing that with no ill effects.I would like to add another item to 95X15's list.
7) Before you move the truck check the brakes.Getting a favorite toy back on the road is fun.Having the brake pedal go to the floor and the potential consequences is not. Good luck.

As above check all lines. Also if you think the motor is toast find a used one. Borrow a engine hoist . Pay attention/mark everything as to came apart. Its not bad to swap whole engine. Get repair manual it helps good luck.

vacuum lines could also need replacing, doesn't take long for those things to dry rot. also not mentioned is drain and flush radiator. and those hoses should be replaced, give them a squeeze and if they are mushy or cracked definately replace them before hitting the road. thermostat could also be froze up. if it's an automatic the fluid and filter will need to be changed before going very far.

I noticed that you swapped a 9" in the rear. Are you going to put this truck on the road? If so, you probably already know this but, your speedo won't work or the RABS. If it's staying on the trail, disregard this.

I had already planned on replaceing all fluids, oils, lubes etc. I am going to go through it with a fine tooth comb looking for any problems dry rot / rodent damage. The truck ran like a top when i stopped driving it so I am hopeing it wont be too much of an issue to get it runing again. As for the speedo i am fully aware that the sensor was 86ed when i swapped out the axel.

Cant you get an after market setup that will read the driveshaft?

I could swear that I remember seeing / reading that some where.

Thanks for the replys guys.
