Service Dept called..

Well this is what they said.. Tech couldnt talk, he was under a truck but this is what he told the writers..

Theres a valve (confused) that opens to allow boost.. They found the code twice in the memory and it wasnt allowing boost.. Now what valve are they talking bout?

That can't be the throttle valve is it..

Might be the VGT solenoid. Not a valve but it moves the turbo vanes. Just a guess but service advisors are not to sharp at some places.

That sounds like a strong possibility! As for the sharpness of service writers; the last one I spoke with was sharp of tongue (and at the point of his head), but he did know his stuff...
I'm still expecting good things for you, Storm!

He got me nervous at first b/c he said that Leroy found 2 codes and then he said Throttle Valve.. I'm like wait a second.. That thing was disabled in the last flash, why would I have codes?! Because if ya'll remember I unplugged it for awhile.. Then he said no a valve that handles the boost.. Mike (service writer) he's smart.. He just doesn't know much on diesels, hes a gas man.. So I aint mad at him for not knowin, Leroy was backed up and wasnt able to talk to me.. I trust them tho

Where did you take your truck? I live a few miles from you and have not needed anything other that routine services done. I bought the truck from Mac Haik but my son bought his from Covert on 183 in North Austin. He swears by their service. Send me a PM if you don't want to publicize the dealer or email me at;

I bought mine from Hoffpauir Ford, Lampasas..

They've been good to me... No matter what happens they've always rushed me in to get me up and running..

I work down from Covert but the service manager pissed me off on the phone.. Hoffpauir gives me a loaner, Covert wanted me to pay some outrageous price for a rental..

well u have a 04 my paranoid buddy. do you even have the throttle plate? you put the elbow on, did you see one? yes it was probably the valve but more than likely you will need a turbo. i have fixed a few sticking turbos with a vgt solenoid, but never one that was stuck.

Yeah when I took the elbow off I saw the butterfly valve.. Before, day prior to me gettin the elbow I pulled the elec plug to see if a CEL would surface.. I was told to remove the valve and use the 05-07 Elbow.. But last minute I said no and got the 03-04 Elbow.. Its there..

So should I call monday and tell them I want the turbo replaced? What should I do.. I guess VGT is what he referred to?

If they pull the turbo they will disassemble it first and see if it can be cleaned. They have been doing that for awhile and I think there is a TSB on trying to clean them before replacing them. I had 2 turbos replaced, 1 in "05 and 1 in early '06. Latter they started cleaning them if they weren't to bad and from what the techs said it worked out OK.

were you running ultra low sulfur diesel and CI-4 oil in both the trucks at the time the turbo's gummed up?

Wish: 2 turbos ,same truck, using CI-4 Motorcraft oil but no additive and not using the truck to much. Now I use it more and use an additive and have about a year on last turbo and no problems, knock on wood.
