This is the forth coil I have had to replace.
Four in my 2001 4x4 F150 4.6 and one in my wifes Lincoln
To-day I ran into a large puddle (flooding) and it started from there. I recognize the symtoms of a shot coil. It seems moisture is a result everytime.
Macahanic tells me its a poor design on the seal of the boot.
Any ideas. I have all of them is there a way to test them.
You need to replace your boots on the rest of the coils. They are the cause of your problems. When they get old they crack & allow the spark to short out to the head.Use plenty of dielectric grease on them too
Today on my way to school my 02 5.4 started missfiring on #4 cylinder, im wondering if I have the same problem. We just got 18 inches of snow and I have been going through it up to my doors for three days in a row. I was thinking it may be a coil and it is highly likely that it got wet from the snow, does this make sense.
