Hey Fellas. I'm having a bad week. On Thurs I pick up my BMW M3 from the body shop (Got the front repainted from all the stone chips) cost $2400 for the whole front end hood.side and all. Then on the way home I rear ended a lady and had it towed back to the body shop. $4500 in damages. (Stop sign- She went right then I looked left - saw a car coming - I knew I could make it and hit the gas- then i looked straight and there she was stopped b/c the car comming was going to fast) DAM-DAM -DAM
Now my check engine light came on in my 96 Bronco XLT. But she runs great still. Anything I can check it for?
BMW what? Isn't that what Bronco's run over? LOL. If the truck is still runnning fine might be something simple like an O2 sensor. The local auto zone here in Michigan will check trouble codes for free. Might want to check some of the auto parts store in your area for the same. Now back to that BMW stuff just think if you were driving the Bronco probably would have run you 50.00 for a little touch up on the bumper. LOL
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Sep-02 AT 02:22 PM (EST)]Whew, Man that sucks about the BMW.
I have been rear ended because of the same thing. Luckily it was lightly with no damage. I have almost done this several times, but now I have it firmly implanted in my head to watch the car in front of me actually leave before I think about hitting the gas. Too many times have cars looked like they are going to go, only to just creep up a few feet and stop.
My only worry now with the Bronco is how much damage I will to do the other vehicle if I were to cause an accident.
Ouch....I had the same exact accident you had where the person did not move after I looked back after accelerating. This is the damage I did to a crappy Mazda Protege 5. The only damage to the my Bronco was a bent license plate and my bumper was pushed in about half a inch.

I hit her at less than 10 mph. One thing I did not notice until after the picture is that if you look closely in the side view mirror..she is smiling. Profanity Removed Oh whell and don't you love it when a tow wrecker just happens to drive by when you don't need him , but they are nowhere to be found when you do need them?
If the truck is running properly, the check engine light is usually nothing to worry about. Half of the time, it is caused by overfilling the fuel tank. If you recently got gas, even if you didn't overfill it, and then the light came on, take the gas cap off and put it back on. This stops a check engine light about 50 percent of the time. If that does not work, disconnect the battery and let it sit for an hour or so, and put it back on. The light should be off. If it does not come back on, problem solved. If it comes back on, it means that there is a problem with something wrong in the emissions control system. Probably the O2 sensor. It does not mean that your engine is about to break!
She is smiling because she knows you just got her a $10,000 insurance check for her crappy car worth maybe $3000 on the street.
Get this, the week before I bought my Bronco, I was driving my wifes old 91 Subaru Justy (3 hamsters under the hood). I had sold two days prior for $600 but I wasn't going to sign it over to the guy until the next Friday when I picked up my truck (he left a deposit).
So that Monday, a dufus rearends a lady and pushes her into me at maybe 35-40. Totals the Justy (as if it wouldn't).
Insurance pays me $2600 for that beater that leaked oil, had bad struts, and the tranny was nearing death.
Yep, $2600 that now sits under my Bronco in the form of a Pro Comp lift, BFG tires and 10" wheels. I love that Justy!!
Needless to say, the Justy buyer was VERY dissapointed.
