Installing temperature gauge

I bought a Equuis temperature gauge kit. It included the sending unit and everything needed to install it according to the guy at the parts store. He said as long as the threads on it was the same as the old one, it would work. If not, they had adapters. The threads were the same as my old one. It screwed in fine and I tightened it down. After this, I could take the wire that is attached to sending unit and easily move it up and down thru the threaded brass piece. What it amounts to is the sending unit is loosely moving up and down which would cause a big mess when if I started the motor. Has anyone ever installed these? Apparently I need something else. Just trying to get some info.

I just installed one of the same brand. The guy at the parts store, as well as the instructions, LIED! No matter what, you need an adapter. I recomend taking it back and buying the Equus "Performance Line". (its at the top of the display shelf) It indcludes the adapters, as well as some other things. It also feels like it's better quality. If not, you can buy the adapter for $6.

BTW, I went through two of these gauges. Finally the third one actually worked... Just a FYI.
