I've had an EGR problem for awhile now.I'm pulling a code , 33 I think but not sure right now.The truck runs fine, but the CEL bugs me.I've cleaned and tested the valve,it's ok. I removed the throttle body and cleaned the ports.I cleared the codes. Now , before I waste any more time and money I think maybe I'd like to eliminate it.I can fab a blocking plate easily .How do I fake out the computer? Emissions testing is no concern on my 1994 I-SIX , 5 SPEED. Comments and /or suggestions?
wow... i have a simular problem... yours is that the sensor is not sending the correct info back..
if i remove the vacuum on mine it will give me the same code... you need 8in of vac when engine is hot and at 2000 rpm..... i pulled it with the key on only and push in the rod on the sensor with multi meter connected (grey one left wire and ground) and see if voltage moves.. if this works then either -like me soleniod valve is not working correctly or there is a hole in diaphragm in the EGR... Autozone sales meter for about 25 bucks...
Hey, thanks a lot for all the info! The main differance between our problems is that my truck runs fine. It will stumble when I connect a tubing to EGR at idle and apply vaccum( sucking on tubing) which I'm told it should. My guess is the position sensor or solenoid, as you have mentioned.I guess I'll have to get out my multimeter and start checking. Or find out how to eliminate the whole system, which as far as I know just dumps garbage back into the intake anyway!!
My code 33 was coming from the EGR valve Vac regulator. I think that’s its name. The vac line goes from the EGR valve to the regulator. I pulled the cap off of it and the foam filter that was under the cap was crumbing apart. I replaced the reg and cleared the codes and light stayed out.
