does anyone know if there are aftermarket clear side and rear lenses for a 79 f-150? i know lmc has the front signals but wondering if anyone knows of the sides and rears?
I beleive nation Parts Depot has them. But I have not heard of clear side lens? I thought that all the side fronts were amber and the rear sides were red. I know that the 75-76ish the fronts were amber and then went clear or vise-versa.
my sides are amber and red but i'm looking to make all my lenses clear all around, just like the look of them.had my 99f-250 with clear lenses with red leds in rear and blue up front for signals and looked real sharp at night.want to see how my 79 would turn out.
The lights and lenses have to be Department of transportation compliant to be legal.
The side markers not only have to glow red or amber respectfully, they also have to reflect red or amber when another white light source hits them, such as another cars headlamps.
The taillamps also have to have red reflectors in them to be legal.
Blue for the front turn signals is a definate violation. They have to be either amber or white.
States like Oregon wont even let you have clear taillamps. If it requires a red bulb to glow red, it's illegal in oregon etc.. The lense has to be red.
Check with your local DMV to be safe. California Highway patrol Profiles street racers, and this is the first thing they look for. Clear lamps etc..
I have seen some of the clear side markers on a 73-79 but I could not find the owner to see where he got them. They do look GREAT though!!! As for legal or not, you need to check your local state laws. Georgia is legal for clear side markers.
Legal in Kentucky too, long as they have Red lights. I use LED's from Autolumination.com I think the 194s in the sidemarkers have 8 LEDS and the taillights have 30 sumthin.
You can get the Side Markers and Tail LIghts on Ebay. Both of mine were the first sets sold, and I didnt see another truck with them @ the 06 F100's
While it is techniclly illegal in most states, the amount a attention and or fines you'll get from the cops depends on where you live. Here in Indiana they will leave you alone just as long as it lights up the correct color. I asked a local cop and he told me that.
I had clear tailights in a truck years ago, and since I used red bulbs I never had a problem. However, a guy I know had blue bulbs in some clear turn signals on his Honda and got fined.
Blinking blue lights, just like an emergency vehicle. No wonder he got nailed.
NumberDummy .... they are referring to the Clear SIDE marker and clear TAILLIGHTS not the front turn signals... I dont have a good rear 3/4 shot uploaded.
Mil1ion That millenium link isnt working (their site might be down) and the other thread they cant seem to find them either
I did some looking on ebay and did'nt see any clear tails listed. I'll keep lookin for ya'll!

Regarding what you said about the blue bulbs.... I installed a pair of "blue dots" in my new red tail lamps on my '74. Just out of curiosity, I asked my best friend who is Police Chief in Arcade, GA (where I live). Blue Dots are legal as long as they are just the small blue jewels and not the entire lense. They also CANNOT be on the front at any time. Blue or red on the front of any vehicle except emergency vehicles are illegal.
However that truck in California, Oregon, Arizona, etc.. it would be a running citation. Cops would be ticketing you every five miles. Just dont visit california anytime soon with that truck.
I have also heard if the lamps are not DOT (Department of transportation) approved, and you get into an accident, you could be considered automaticlly at fault, even if you didnt cause the accident. All the driver of the other car has to do is say, "The non standard lamps confused me", and if they are not DOT legal, or illegal in your state, then the blame falls to you.
I also heard that some insurance companies may not pay for claims due to tampered safety equipment.
Not trying to rain on anybody's parade, but just thought you should know about some of the stuff that's been going on.
You know In California two years ago, One in every 10 cars had clear taillamps. Now it's like one in every 7,000 to 10,000 or so. I can go all day without seeing one. And it's due to the harassment and stuff I mentioned above.
