Question Dead Spot on accelerator?

I started to encounter a dead spot ( for lack of a better term) while on a hill or under load. I iwll do my best to describe it:

Truck will tach up to 1500 rpm or so and then if I pause at ll or sometime sif I dont I need to move the accelerator about half way down and the rpms jump to 2300 or so. Mind you it does no tod this while traveling on the flats or downhil and the tranny shifts smooth as can be so...what gives any ideas?

Truck is due to go in for some warranty service/check before the 100,000 mile warranty comes up.

Also under hard acceleration I seem to be getting a more black smoke than I used to.

ya know I did think of that but since it ois still under warranty I wanted to have ford deal with it. That is what I was looking for because I had some problems at another dealership and this one is actually one that I know as A rated by friends and I spoke at length about this with the SA so i am hoping this gets settled out at the next service visit, I just dont wanmt to send them on a fishing expedition
