i have a 1992 f-150 inline 300 5 speed manual bought for $ 500 when i gave them the cash they handed my a flat head screw driver, needed the truck bad so i said ok whatever. story behind it all was the kid whom had it before me lost the keys insteed of waiting for his mom he busted out the ignition cylinder and the steering colum as well. the truck is very drivable just not enough metal left to hold another igniton cylinder, seached high and low for a whole new steering colum but no one was able to help me. what i use right now is the screw driver to turn lever inside the colum forward to engae power( radio, lights, the annoying buzzing sound) the problem with that was the lever is so worn out i was not able to move it forward enough to start the truck, i fixed that with a pushbutton wired straight to the starter solenoid on the passenger side front fender. now the lever is getting worse to where ts hard to even turn the power on. no ford dealership can or will not help me. what i need to know is what wires inside that whole cluster of wires inside the colum go to the toggle switch PLEASE HELP ME
I have a steering column from a 95 F-150, 300/5spd. It has a new lock cylinder, and the airbag is good, all you would need to do is swap on your turn signal switch and install it. If you are interested, send me a PM and I'll send you some pics to confirm it will work for you. I'll let you have it cheap, shipping might hurt a bit though.
Another column would be the way to go. You can do the toggle switch thing, but it's more complicated than you think, and you will have to get a wiring diagram, and the proper switches to make it all work.
I went to www.car-part.com and typed in a 92 f150, steering column, in Ohio. I picked a floor shift with tilt. I got two hits. One was Keiffer Auto & Truck Recyclers. They have one for $250. The other hit was Parsons Auto Parts.
Get a couple of relays and some extra 12ga wire and 18ga. Wire up the relays for the accessory and ignition circuits. Wire the coil side to some regular toggle switches. Take another relay and wire it up to the starter and connect it to a toggle switch or push button switch. Then all you need to do is turn on the ignition, accessory and then hit the starter.
