Will a Computer Cam help boost performance?
Looking for some info. I have just rebuilt(long block) my 5.8 351W in my 90 bronco. It had 200k on the motor but it was starting to show its age. I installed some headers, performance muffler and it helped with low end torque and response before the the engine rebuild. I currently have an EFI computer controlled system. I looked at the Crane and Competition cam websites and they both market a computer cam that they claim can help boost torque and towing performance. I am looking to improve just a bit over stock and not willing to de-install the computer and install a carb. Appreciate any responses...

As long as these cams are computer-compatible with Ford's Speed Density system, you won't have any problems. One of these cams should boost your 351's horsepower & torque. In a heavy 4x4 vehicle, you'll want more added torque, than horsepower. My guess is these aftermarket cams will offer more torque gains-especially in the low-to-mid rpm range, rather than a lot of horsepower.Still, your 351 will gain more of both.Good luck.

Thanks DeGideo. Talked with Comp/Crane reps and they said it would work with the computer. They both indicated that I should realize a noticeable increase in torque and about a 40-60hp gain? Sounds good but I will see when I tow the boat or travel trailer.

40-60hp from a cam !?! I think someone was feeding you a line unless there are some other mods you plan on making. You would need a head change to get those kind of numbers.
