Which headers to use

I caught part of a thread where a couple of knowledgeable people reccommended a brand and type of headers to use on a 73 to 79. But I don't know where I saw it.

I am starting to build a 390 and of course want to use what ever will work the best.

One concern I will have is,

My transmission will have a PTO on the passenger side sticking out.

The headers have to be short so I can have the pipe routed aropund the PTO.
Hopefully this is the correct forum for this question. The forum on engines doesn't seem to narrow in on 73s to 79s and too often I have to sort through posts by opening them to find info important to my application.

Sounds like a plan. The "best" manufacturer is debateable. Price may be a concern. There are different types. Etc., etc. Might try the engine specific firum and ask there.
I'd ask 1st what type > short/long tube - try-Y or scavenging - what size tube - and so forth. Take notes.

I bought a set of these for my '79 302 from these guys. The service was excellent. The fitting was excellent too. read the feedback about you paritcular application.
When I get this efffing oil-leak fixed I just may get to try the headers and the new 600 Holley and high-rise manifold combination out.

the biggest problem i found getting mine was that there werent enough questions asked by my supplier.

especially down here since all the trucks are converted left to right, you have to take everything into consideration. when you are pricing make sure they ask you everything -

power steering?

4x4 or 2x4?

do you have airconditioning?

what sort of crossmember do you have?

starter motor location?

the brand i purchased was HUMEX Hi Techs. Definately not the most expensive and there are far better out there but it was a good entry point into modifying and there is so much difference in how the monster is running now.

might even pay to ask around at a coulple of exhaust places and get their opinions and ideas.....

.....does pay to shop around
