under hood insolation?

has anyone ever removed the ugly black insolation from under there hoods? I was thinking about taking mine off. Are there any pros or cons to doing this? Is it there to protect your paint or something? Any ideas?

Its there for noise reduction.... But I will add this... I blow boots every now and then... that hood blanket has kept me from having a nice dent or two in the hood...Mine is staying

It has saved mine from an alternator pully "mishap". A bonehead buddy of mine had a Bic lighter slip out of his shirt pocket while leaning over my running motor. Somehow it got whipped through the belt and alt pulley.
It reminded me of the old hot wheels racetrack Supercharger from 1968 that would propel the car with the foam rubber spinning wheels.

Could have been scary, but the hood made it out unscathed.
So have I, all things considered.

Austin

Ford stopped including the underhood insulation a few years back. There have been a boatload of threads in the Superduty section over the past couple years about adding the blanket. Maybe you can "trade" with one of them.

Mine has it but I don't see any reason to take it off. The bit of protection CSIPSD mentioned seems like a good reason to keep it.
