I dont know what is wrong with it now... I installed that Power Elbow.. Then yesterday I filled it up.. And now it has no boost.. I feel like im driving on just the engine.. I've rolled the throttle and it doesn't take off.. I can't feel the boost buildup like normal..
This is really starting ot **** me off.. Is it possible that I could have got some really bad diesel? This station I went to has made me wonder.. This was my 3rd fillup using this station, I had no choice.. I was almost empty..
I don't know if I need to put the stock elbow back on.. Take it to the service dept.. I don't know.. I'm now starting to wonder...
Any clues.. Only stuff done to it recently was the exhaust and power elbow..
We are thinking a few things here.. The stock elbow is going back on tonight to verify..
a) O-ring didnt seal on Throttle Valve/Elbow connection
b) Boost port plug is leaking
c) The fact the angle is higher compared to stock elbow, possibly clamping down "too" tight caused a leak?
d) somewhere a boot busted.. but thats a lot of boots to chase down
e) bolts came loose on Elbow
Toss that aftermarket POS in the trash and put the stock unit back on there. Problem solved! Seriously though, as the others mentioned already you probably have a leak. What seems odd to me is that the "new" one is differently shaped than the original. Why would that be? Stay stock and stay strong.....
if you had a leak, it would be very noticeable. the sound would be outrageous. leave the elbow on, and take it to a dealer. was it fine after you put the elbow on? when did it screw up exactly????
The elbow went on Sunday.. It was fine.. Noticed increase in acceleration.. Smoother exhaust tone (Guess you could call it that).. Then tuesday I went to the Diamond Shamrock in DT Austin for fuel.. I've gotten fuel from there before and didn't like the outcome.. Just didn't feel right.. After I got fuel, the next day I noticed it didn't have much power.. I was heading to school and I got on her... I couldnt feel the boost.. You know that feeling when you roll it, you feel the boost build up and push you.. It feels like just a normal V8..
Then today on my way in I was going up the onramp and I got on it again.. Normally it downshifts once and puts me around 25-2600rpms and I feel the boost increase.. This time is downshifted twice and felt like a V8 with no turbo.
I still have the turbo whine and everything.. Start the truck, makes the rumble then the turbo hiss we get with the 4" exhaust no cat/no muff.. While I'm driving I can hear that slight whine increase when I'm on the throttle..
At lunch I'm going to go tighten down the bolts on the intake.. I'm wondering if it came loose.. If there was a leak how loud would it be? Louder then the engine noise?
trust me unless u hear a strong whooshing sound, u done have a leak. your turbo may be stuck. u could have bad fuel.
Can bad fuel do this? I was thinking too because in previous cases I've noticed bad declines in MPG when I go to that station.. I've used it 3 times and all 3 times were stupidity and not seeing I was low..
I live in Georgetown, work in Austin (bout 22 miles) and the best place I ever found fuel was Seward Junction 12 miles west of Georgetown. Reason I say best is I feel safer over there with them having Diesel Rig pumps for 18w.. Plus anytime I get fuel over there I get amazing gas mileage.. For instance my last tank from them forded me 13.9MPG and other places I was hitting 12s.. 12.5.. 12.9 with the same style..
I just wasnt aware if bad fuel could do this kind of damage.. I guess if the turbo was stuck I wouldn't really hear the whine right? Or would I have a different exhaust tone? Like I said, the Straight Exhaust sound is still there.. That turbine wine from the pipe that makes it sound like a jet engine.
anything that is obvious. if you are using the racor filters, then the mesh will stop everything . you start loosing boost at 40 psi fuel pressure basically cause there is not enough exhaust energy to keep the turbo going.
So if the mesh is blocked .. The fuel pressure will decline right.. Is there anything in the Diag Screen that I can see? I know how to get the diag screen on the trip meter display up..
If I were you I would replace the fuel filters and go from there. Maybe the UG tanks at the service stations you don't like to use are old and leaking, now you've water, sand and lord knows what else. Change the fuel filters.
