Filled truck 10 gallons Tuesday night. Ran ok on the way home. No start today. Cranks, stumbles once like it wants to start. New batteries, new cps, good starter, pulled fuel filter and fuel color was blueish. Had Water in Fuel light on and off intermittently lately, along with some other electrical grumblings so paid no mind. I always remeber diesel in the bowl being super clean and slightly yellow. Also, fuel smells funny, actually a little like gas, but after one whiff can't tell.
Drained fuel bowl, and find lots of crap on bottom, almost sluge like. Clean out what I can, refill, same color, dump refill and still no start. Whats next? Need truck tomm bad
.......and will be draining..... how did you post that so quick? <s> the fuel in the am. Can I leave the key on, and the water sep valve open and catch the fuel into a container? Better ways?
D/C the fuel line wires, note which one is pos and neg. Get some wire and wire the fuel pump directly to the battery so that it stay running and the open the valve and let it catch in a container. Idk what you mean by posted so fast?
You need to get rid of the fuel/gas mix, change filters, and with a little luck you should be ok. You will probalby want to run a hot wire directly to the fuel pump and not cycling the glow plugs and everything else. The key on will only run the pump for about 20 seconds anyway. Hook up a piece of hose on the end of the fuel drain line to control where it goes. You may even want to siphon out as much as you can before you do the pump thing.
Up on the siphoning thing first. Have some diesel kleen already and some good fuel to go. Where are the lines for the fuel pump connections? Need a little more info on what to look for, then shoudl be ok I guess...
I vote for the siphon method, Gasoline is no where near the lubricity standards of diesel and depending on the concentration could possibly damage the pump.
I wasn't finished posting when I hit send, and was adding the part about draining the fuel wondering if anyone would reply so quick and lo and behold....
The fuel pump is mounted under the drivers seat on the frame. The lines are running to and from it. I don't think you need worry about the lines if you siphon as much as you can from the tank. You should be able to get as much or more than the pump will pick up. After you siphon as much as you can. Put some DIESEL fuel in and cycle the key/pump a couple of times with the drain valve open and clear out the bad stuff, change the fuel filter. I don't know an easy way to clear the fuel beyond that point of the gas but you should be ok.
Thanks zx250...and everyone. Have the cordless drill charged and a few 5 gal tanks ready, as well as some new diesel for a wash and dump, then refill. Gotta check around to see where I can take the gas to be dumped unless someone has an idea? Lawn equip maybe? Lots of smoke and oil...? Auto parts?
drained all the fuel as best as possible, ran some diesel through the lines and drained that, then filled with 10 gallons fresh diesel. Cranks just like before but will not start. Need ideas.
