I can remember as a kid watching the ***** roll around in the flow indicators when dad was filling up the `ol station wagon. Gas was around 0.36/gallon then.
Wow, great find. I was surprised to see one near me. The fifth from the bottom is in Lynnfield, Massachusetts - about 2 miles from my house, right off old Route 1.
It's a shame so much of the old stuff is getting torn down and replaced with cookie-cutter boxes. I watched them unload an entire Hess Express off a truck and assemble it in a couple days. Sad.
That was a great selection of pictures...I recall seeing some like that while riding around the countryside years ago. Uncle had one much like the first picture where you could buy a small coco-cola for 5 cents and a penny deposit on the bottle.......and gas was around 25 cents a gallon

Every once in a while I have to travel down old Highway 66 from Chicago through St. Louis, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and on to California. I always see a few along that route.
I remember the old Sunoco stations with what seemed to be a dozen different grades of gasoline. Ours had a grease pit, and they let people use it for free on the weekends. Can you imagine trying to do that today w/ all the lawyers swarming around?
