Normal Operating Ranges!

Hey does anyone have “accurate” information on normal operating ranges for an 05’ F250, 4X4, 6.0? I need transmission temp, engine oil temp, and exhaust gas temp. Thanks for the help!

My trans temp normally stays at 155 to 160 unless towing then I've seen 210. My EGT's vary from 300 at idle to 1100, again while towing. I don't monitor oil temp but my coolant stays at about 186. Hope this helps.

Why?

The reason why I would like the info, is that I installed new gauges. What is normal, and how high is too high? I don't want to overwork or overheat anything and end up dead on the side of the road! I do a lot of towing.

engine oil and coolant temp will be very close to the same with engine oil temp typically being a little higher. EGT's vary too much to tell, but anything over 13 or 14 hundred for too long can get dicey. Trans temp--about 155 empty--these have a huge tranny cooler and a thermostat to control it. I normally tow uphill at 1250 EGT without a problem.

So it looks like what you guys are saying is, normal range for trans is 145-160, not to exceed 200. Normal range for pyro is 600-800 (@65-70mph)not towing, and 1250 max when towing. Higher ranges are ok for short periods of time not to exceed 1400. And I still have nothing for engine oil temp. Does this sound accurate? Thanks again for the help, this is a great resource.

Engine oil temperature should not vary more than 25 deg. from engine coolant temperature when at operating temperatures.

CanadaGuy, I understand you to say the engine oil temp should be within 25 deg of the coolant temp, but what is the temp?
Thanks!

Engine coolant 180 - 200 not towing, towing dont know yet.
Engine oil 180 - 200 not towing, and towing dont know yet, ussually oil temp takes a while to catch up to coolant, then can spike slightly higher than water temp.
Pyro pre turbo, 500 - 1050 not towing (but its cold here, summer 1200 probably), 1250 + towing I bet, I have defuel set for now, never had it kick in yet.
Voltage 12.8 on startup, 13.2 after startup and glow plugs done, up to temp. Rarely varies from 13.1 to 13.2.
transmission 50 to 110, but its cold here, even a 4 hour trip, never got over 110. towing dont know.

Outlook monitor version 3.5.0.
Post turbo pyro when I get the turbo back exhaust.
Towing in March or April if the snow ever leaves so I can pull out the TT.

Also note that your EGTs can easily exceed 800 while accelerating or pulling a hill without a load. One rule of thumb on the tranny temp is about 100 degrees over ambient temps once fully warm - it will be a little hotter in the summer under normal use.
