I had a cheap looking hoppy brake master given to me so I tried it. It controlled the brakes fine, but when I unplugged the trailer the green LED that lets you know the trailer is hooked up stayed on, dimmer than it was, but still on. A few of the red LEDs are on dimly too.
When I hit the brakes now, it lights up like I have a trailer hooked up.
I should add that before I hooked to that trailer the controller had no LEDs lit up at all.
I don't know what to do, I mean it's working but something must be wrong and I don't want it to go out on me when I need it the most.
Any suggestions?
It can not be easily integrated into an '01 I dont think...Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I think that you would need to have the master brake cylinder changed along with several other things. It is not just a plug and play like one would think. I have an '04 F250 so it was not around when I got my truck so my only option was to stick a prodigy...and I love it...
how expensive are these prodigy controllers? I have been running Tekonsha's for all my life, and my camping group has run all tekonsha units for decades without a problem, I wouldn't replace a perfectly good functioning one, but if I where to have to replace a malfunctioning one I would like to know the cost vs. the benefits.

I believe the integrated controller can only be put in on the '05 and up trucks. For anything older the Prodigy is the best. I think they are selling for around $120 US. Well worth the money. I've used other's and was very impressed after switching to the Tekonsha Prodigy. Other than the Integrated controller, I wouldnt use anything else.
