2000 Navigator Heated/cooled seats are somewhat intermittent. I know I saw a post about repairing the slide switch or 5position rotating temp switch but I've searched and can't find it. Seems to work great if I play with the controls.
Does anyone have guidance on how to remove this switch--it's mounted to the front outside lower plastic panel if the seat. The factory CD manual doesn't really address it specifically. The manual talks about tearing the whole seat apart with lots of air bag warnings.
It would seem the plastic panel could be removed without pulling the seat out etc. So I'm hoping someone has some experience with replacing or repairing the temp controls for the seat.
The post I saw indicated they took the switch out (no details given) and used super glue to fix the contacts.
Just looking for some guidance before I start the job
Turcker22 - wish I could have helped, I have a similar problem and can't figure it out. Had a few folks try, but I guess there is a big difference between the heat only seats and the heat/ac seats. Hope you got it fixed.
I posted that original message. Unfortunately it applied to an '03 Nav with rotary switch for temp settings in console. I don't know how to help you on a 2000, sorry.
Well, I have the '03 Expy EB with the heated and cooled seats. I have a switch for each seat, the toggle part for heat and cool and the dial/rotary part 1 - 5 for the temp.
Thank you for the replies---It turns out that the plastic shroud on the side of the seat can be pulled far enough away from the seat to get the rotary and slide switch out (It's all in one switch). Disconnected the battery first of course. The switch is hard wired, meaning there is no electrical connector to putll off. So if you don't pull the battery you could short something out when you take the switch apart. The back of the switch can be pryed off and the switch taken apart. In my case (2000 Nav) the switch was in good condition. Nothing broken. I cleaned it up and lubed with silicone grease and bent the 'wiper' a little to get more pressure on the 5 section copper contact and put it back together. I believe it helped some. But the weather here has warmed up and I have it off at the present time. Time will tell if I really did any good. However anyone having control problems might try it. If you are careful you can easily clean up the contacts and see if the switch is in good condition or not. It's prettey delicate so it's easy to see that some switches may be broken internally as has been reported by some.
