Differences in 400's

Freind has a 400 out of a early 70's lincoln MarK V Wondering was there a difference between the designs for cars and trucks?

I have heard the compression was different depending on year. What made the difference and was anything else different.

so it was piston height and not differences in the heads?

this is good, since it will be getting new pistons anyways

the difference between '71 and later compression was due to flat-top pistons vs dished. the variations in other years and between car/truck motors was due to differing combustion chamber volumes (heads), afaik. factory piston compression height was unchanged, but aftermarket replacement ch is typically lower to compensate for head/deck resurfacing. So, CC your heads and measure deck height before ordering pistons. Tim Meyer carries zero-deck (or close to it) pistons for 400's, but be careful not to go too high on SCR for your cam...
