i read the 360 thread, my problem is different- my ford 360 'will' start but doesnt keep running!- i have to try maybe 30 times or more!- only thing is when its started it runs GREAT- i took it to a repair shop tonight- and must of shut it off and started it a dozen times without any problem!- so i get it home- shut it off- then it doesnt want to start it again- i mean it 'wants to start' the engine 'kicks in' for lack of better words, but then immediatly shuts down- i got a manual fuel pump on it- it works fine when the trucks running-- is that the problem? or a carbuearator problem?- thx- john (maybe something else?)
Unfortunately you don't say what year your truck is which makes for a real guessing game. Possibly a bad ignition switch, ignition pickup module or points wiring, or bad ignition module or condenser.
i had them start on start but not on run. what i mean is it will start why you turn it over then as soon as you let off the key it dies. was the brian box.one other way is when it ack up run a hot wire from battery to coil and see if it runns then but don,t leave it on long only to check. alan
the trucks a 78-- but the engine is from a 75 or 76- LOL (sorry bout that) by the replies then- i seem to be ok with fuel pump since its works well when the trucksd keeps running after it 'stays' started-- im gonna print all the replies and show em to mechanic friend since i dont understand this electronic stuff- john
ok guys- i found out what it is!!- so if anyone has this 'problem'- i found out by accident- its the ignition!-- everything works good it seemed- but the 'spring' or something didnt fully release it- when i start it, then just tap it couterclockwise- the engine kicks in!- john
ya i,ve always called the IM a brain boxs ,thats funny abount the blue box thats the one i,ve alway went out. he talking abount the key switch i bet that just worn out. alan
