I dropped a injector while removing the fuel rail, and the vapor cap broke off. The injector is part number FOTE-C3A for the 5.0L. My local junkyard only had injectors for the 5.8L part number F2TE-A3A.
I was able to cut the O-ring on a 5.8 injector and and with a small homemade pickle fork press off the vapor cap. The vapor cap snapped back into place on the 5.0L injector.
I am 99% sure this is ok, just looking for that little re-assurance. What do you guys think?
I wouldnt do it, but thats just me....Remember that this has to hold up to about 40-60psi of fuel pressure. Where you cut the O-ring is a prime leaking spot, but I dont know about the cap. Don't know if they were made to do that...If they were, I would say at the least order a new O-ring
I still had the origainal o-ring, I just had to cut the one off to be able to pry the cap off the 5.8L one. It has an un-touched o-ring and plastic spacer thing on it.
oh ok, well if they were made to pop off and on like that, and it sounds like, i guess its worth a try...at the worst if it leaks, you'll just have to replace it anyways
If you're talking about the Pintle end, yes, the caps are made to come off to be replaced with the spacer and o-ring. But I would make damn sure you didn't damage the pintle pin and seat before reusing that injector. Use a 5x or 10x magnifying glass to inspect the tip for damage. If it is or you're in doubt, replace it. This is a very important part of the injector that provides the proper spray pattern.
3/4 of the vapor cap. or pintle still remained on the injector. I will take it to work and borescope it for good measure ( a borescope will go down into the pintle opening).
