fuel pump

Does anyone know the how to test fuel pump pressure? I think i would have to get a pressure gauge and attach it to the bleed valve.Has anyone tried this? Or does anyone know the procedure. I know my fuel pump works but i think I have low pressure. This is on a 96 351 with a fuel pump in the gas tank.

fuel pump

I too am having fuel system problems (have not grounded pump yet to verify it is working) with my '96 Bronco (351). I was looking through the Haynes Ford Truck and Bronco ('80-96) manual (a lot of info in it) and ran across the procedure.

Engine off pressure check (EFI):
Relieve fuel pressure (inertia switch under plastic kick plate along passenger side).
Connect fuel pressure gauge to schrader valve on fuel rail (looks like a valve stem from tire).
Locate the diagnostic Data Link Connector under hood (below hood spring on drivers side) and ground the fuel pump test terminal (I believe the farthest terminal to the right, but not sure).
Turn on ignition (don't start engine) and the pump should run.
Check the reading on the gauge. It should read 35-45 psi.

If it falls outside this range, I'd recommend getting a copy of the Haynes manual or similar at an autoparts store (as I'd be typing all day to quote the under/overpressure fixes).
Hope this helps,

Well, what are your symptoms? These pumps will oftentimes put out great pressure when cold, but if it's getting weak you won't see a drop in fp until it's hot and under load.

IOW, if you get normal fp in your driveway don't assume the pump is ok.

Yes, you can use the schraeder valve.
