'94 E150 E4OD pblms
I just purchased a '94 E150 351/5.8 w/ E4OD. It started easily and ran strong. The main issue was that it upshifted at higher engine speeds than it should, and upshifted harder than it should. For example, it would not go into OD unless already above 60mph. The OD button in the lever and the OD off light operated correctly. The OD off light never flashed or flickered otherwise, so no codes generated. I took it to my favorite mechanic to fix it (not a dealer or tranny shop). He did a fluid flush of the tranny cooler, cooler lines, valve body, and torque converter. He replaced the tranny fluid, filter and gasket. He inspected for leaks. I got the van, drove it back home and it had these NEW problems:<O:p</O:p
1. It needs significant gas pedal pressure to start the engine where before it would start without any gas pressure. Once started, must hold gas pressure to keep it running for the first 30 seconds. In effect, my EFI engine is starting like a carbureted engine with an automatic choke pblm. It starts the same whether in Park or Neutral. <O:p</O:p
2. Put into any gear, the Check Engine light goes on. It stays on until put into Neutral or Park, then the light goes out. <O:p</O:p
3. It upshifts even harder, the upshift bump into each gear is more pronounced. <O:p</O:p
4. Speedomer indicates 7mph faster than actual speed.<O:p</O:p
5. Attempting to maintain a cruise, it seems to float or disengage. If gas is applied, it bumps back into engagement. If gas is released, it floats before engaging into engine braking in OD (if OD on) or D (if OD off) or lower gear if at lower speeds. <O:p</O:p
6. It upshifts and downshifts too early.<O:p</O:p
7. Last night I took it out onto the highway and it wouldn't upshift until at VERY high engine speeds. All other problems 1-5 above were the same. Then coming back home it was back to all problems 1-6, i.e., again upshifting & downshifting too early.<O:p</O:p

My mechanic is a good guy who's saved me a bunch of money in the past, so before I go somewhere else he would want to make this right. I don't know if he adjusted the VSS or TPS, but I suspect either of those are the problem. Can any of you help?<O:p</O:p
thanks

if not, do it now
this can be from any number of sensors
check all grounds and weather pack connections
www.fordfuelinjection.com has a lot of valuble info
for trouble shooting efi and the sensors
get a good digital volt meter and
test test test
I would start with shift position module on the side of the trans
