I have a 351W in a 95 F150. I am looking for a long tube header with a 3 inch collector, 3 bolt flange setup that would allow me to directly bolt up header mufflers.
I have looked all over and all I can find in a long tube is 2.5 inch collectors. does anybody have any ideas?
sorry, I should have added in some of what I have already searched for. I have looked all over hedman and hookers sites, The only long tube headers I can find for my engine are in a 2.5 inch collector, and the ones of hedmans that I found in a 3 inch has a ball and socket flange, not a 3 bolt. I need the 3 bolt to bolt up to a set of purple hornies.
Unless there is a way to attach a 3 inch header muffler to a 2.5 inch header... I dont know what to do
The funniest part: directly from the description for the $600+ headers: Dynomax ceramic coated headers have the performance you crave at a price that won't break the bank. ha.
yeah, a little out of my price range, it just doesnt make sense to me that they have headers for less than $200 except they have the wrong connector, and then to get the right connector you have to take a huge jump up in price. I know those are ceramic coated, but seriously now.
I guess, what i will probably have to do is just get the headers I want and instead of bolting the mufflers directly to them, just rig up a bit of exhaust pipe and clamp some mufflers to it, oh well
thanks for the help, but if anyone finds anything else, let me know, I wont be doing this until summer time, so I have time
There are several 3" collector long tube headers for the 351, I just cant promise they will fit your truck. For instance the HH88660 hedman header has what you need, but its for a Mustang. And its under $200
Yeah, I noticed that there were others for other vehicles, but I was thinking that they are more than likely shaped differently I am guessing, so they might not fit whats inside my engine compartment.
Isnt it weird that they dont offer what I am looking for? is it such an abnormal request? I didnt think it was such weird part for this pickup
You are not going to want to bolt the mufflers directly to the headers.
The headers come out in an awkward place on these trucks, and they are also very low to clear the tranny and other objects underneath. If you keep the exhaust system level with the headers, you will see it hanging down, especially on a 4wd, and it does not look good at all.
On the driver's side after the header, you have to make a decision right away on which way the exhaust is going to go. Either to the left under the frame and down the rocker panel, or to the passenger side to run along with the other pipe. The gas tank on the driver's side is right in the way.
I am not running a whole exhaust system. I am just going to go with some purple hornies, or some other brand of muffler that will bolt right to a long tube header with a turndown on it, just a couple feet long. Do you think that will still be a problem, I have heard of others doing it.
It will still be a problem. Get under there and look at the front driveline...where are you going to put a muffler? You can get a pipe by there but it gets tight.
Get a good set of 2.5's wrap it under the engine then have the mufflers side by side under the passenger side of the cab. There you can just turn down, route them over the axle or dump them in front of the rear tire. Cheap/easy and does the job.
the purple hornies are a glass pack, that is maybe a half inch bigger around than a pipe, i think the whole diameter of the pack is less than 4 inches or about there.
It's going to depend on how the headers come out. The headers I have came out at the same height as the crossmember that holds the transfer case. I actually had to squish a 2 1/4" pipe oval to get it to clear. So you have have to squish your header mufflers a little bit.
I personally would never exit the exhaust under the truck. I have tried it, and it's very very noisy inside the cab.
Thats how mine exits now, and it isnt bad at all. It is just what i prefer. I will just have to wait and see how things fit together when I get them. thanks for the tip, though!
