'87 6.9 starting trouble

I have an '87 6.9 diesel and it starts great when it's cold, but if it sits for more than a week without being run it will fire, run for two seconds, then die. I have been told it's a leak in a return fuel line. Where is that located? anything I can do to fix that? or do I have to replace that line? Also, it sometimes it starts hard when it has been run and sits for a half hour or so, what would cause that?
Thanks

Bob there is a fuel line that runs from your fuel filter head to the #1 injector....this line has been notorius for air leaks, on my 84 & 86, so what you want to do is cut and seal up, cap, both ends of line. I used a small bolt, gasket sealer & hose clamp....if you have a spare #8 injector return line t, use it on the #1 injector and you'll only have to seal up the cut return fuel line to to the filter.

And thankyou for your email, I appreciate all the info!!
