Well you can read the code that is stored in the PCM or just go ahead and replace the Cam Position Sensor.

Absolutely easy. Here are a few links to help out...

Pictured in my gallery is CPS location:

Locate the CPS. It is on the passenger side of the engine block. It is accessible from under the truck and is located at about the 10 o'clock position behind the crankshaft front pulley. Reach up and unplug the wiring harness, remove the 10mm bolt, and GENTLY pry the old CPS out with the flathead screwdriver..

If your Super Duty has the dual alternator package, you may find the second alternator while looking for the CPS. With the dual alternator package, the CPS may not be as easy to see or reach but it is still in the same place.

Install the new CPS opposite of removal
Hope that helps...

Ahhh.. the infamous CPS.

Or, as my local shop calls it... the Cheap Plastic S$#T

Another item that's good to keep in the toolbox.
