Ok, I got a timing light that works now and went to check my timing and it was at 20deg BTDC. I have never adjusted my timing and have had my bronco for about 10 years now so i imagine it has been like this for a while. I just drove it around and didn't notice much if any difference. What would having my timing set that far off do performance wise? and could it have damaged anything that i might want to look in to?
You may have seen this already. To check the timing have the engine fully warmed up and pull the spout connector first. Sticker on hood shows what timing should be. Mine likes 11-12 btdc. Mine also reads in the 20's with spout in.

Reason: Forgot something
Yeah I had it fully warmed and i'm pretty sure it was the spout connector i had unplugged. It's a grey squar plastic plug with one wire coming off it (which came from a harness coming from the distributor) and goes in to a socket with only one wire coming out of it, which ran a couple of inches to what appears to be a one lead capacitor (which doesn't make sense). I set it to 10deg with this unplugged and it still runs fine. Thanks for the info though, can anyone confirm that this in the spout connector i've unplugged? Its located straight back and between the engine and master cylinder.
Ok, looks like the spout connector was under neath the cruise control servo assembly. It was more of a cap/plug with no wires coming out of it but a bridge between two wires going to it. Anyway, after adjusting it last night I had set my timing to 5 since the spout wasn't unplugged. Now its, 10. Thanks for the input!
install some new autolite or motorcraft copper plugs, some ford 9mm wires. bump the timing to 12 with spout disconnected and see how it runs. Mine showd much improvment
I just replaced the plugs and wires less than a year ago, but I may look into replacing them with the ones you recommended. Mine were replaced a year ago, but I had bought them about 5 years ago :/ talk about procrastination. It runs ok now, not great at high way speed or getting up hills from being stopped. Thanks!
