I know most people reccomend the donahoe lift. I was looking into the pro lift. I am not worried about a stiffer ride. I was going to go with a 4" lift with 2 1/2 in the rear and 4 in the front. I do alot of towing so I dont want to go too big. Has anyone put in the pro comp or have any good or bad feed on them.
You have a vote for the Fabtech, I believe they ride about the same as the Pro-Comp, both are a little stiff for me, and fatigue after little time. Fatigue is accelerated with off-road use. I have had good long term use, and abuse from BDS kits. Look for a spring pack with many thin leafs, (preferably with tappered ends, or diamond cut) rather than a pack with only three or four. Eight to ten will provide a great ride, and a strong pack that will resist sag.
I had a BDS kit on my old bronco, they were the kit to get, and they have a UNCONDITIONAL LIFETIME WARRENTY ON ALL PARTS! Find me another company that does this!
DO NOT get the BDS kit for you Excursion!! Unless they have improved anything, which I doubt! The drop bracket for the track arm was WAY off, the springs were about 1/2" thick for each leaf and the bushings for the sway bars were weak.
Out of the numerous lift kits I have installed or helped with, BDS was the worst.
sorry 1, they might be good for the older trucks, but I ended up changing over to Fab-Tech, nice springs, nice ride and fit just perfect.
Pro-comps are a bit stiffer, but the install/fit is good.
Not to bag on BDS, but I have not been impressed with them, but, my only experience with them is on the newer SD's and Ex's.

too bad about the bad experience with your BDS kit, but I can't for the life of me find one that has thick leafs. I am looking at two here at the shop, one for an EX, and on for an SD, and both have a 10 leaf pile-up, none of wich has an individual spring that is anywhere close to 1/2" thick. BDS uses the "glide-rite" spring with bolt style leaf alignment clamps that allow great flex, and movement, with far less noise. The only problem I have ever had with a trac bar bracket, was when the powder coating made one of the holes smaller, and the bolt would not fit. For all it is worth I don't even run trac bars any more. I run Deaver springs on my personal Super Duties, and the same for the wifes EX. but have had good results from the BDS product, and I have installed several.
I was looking at the pro comp because I want the front and rear springs. They have a 4" lift. I am prepaired for a stiffer ride. I dont do any real off roading. I have a 23ft enclosed atv trailer, heavy, I was looking for stiffer rear springs to cut down on the sag. And I have a 32 ft tt. So I want to keep it reasonable on the lift but get all 4 springs. I wasnt too impressed about front hangers. Guess I am just old school. Thanks for the replies.
They might have gotten better, I originally bought them about 4 yrs ago, and nope, it wasn't the powdercoat, it was off about 1/2". The leaf packs only had 5 springs in front, and 4 in the rear, WAY WAY to stiff. But they might have chnged since then, I just wasn't really impressed with the kit overall either, seemed kinda cheap. But like I said that was 4+ yrs ago, things may have changed.
I really like the Procomp lift. I have the 8in lift. It is a bit stiff but still a good ride for the height. I had the Fabtech 6in lift on my 2000 EX PSD , I liked it also. The Fabtech shocks I think are a little better. Procomp is a couple hundred less that Fabtech. I went to the full spring lift on my 2000 EX . What a uncomfortable ride. Stay with add a springs and blocks for the rear , much better ride
I agree Todd, I ended up going back to the stock springs in the rear with a block, they have the antiwrap leaf on them, and it mainly just gets driven around and tows the toyhauler, no "offroading" The wife says I have my 77 for that!
Wylecoyote I have a Procomp 6" in my 2000 EX PSD. I love it. I went with the MX6 adjustable shocks. I really do not notice too much difference unless I set the shocks to the top notch and the ride does get a little rough. Similiar to F350 ride. Very happy with it.
Thanks guys, Its nice to take in a little af what everyone has to say. I am going to try the procomp, I am looking to stiffen up the rear a little, I will keep the stockers, If its too rough I will maybe add a leaf and blocks or maybe air bags. I will kee you posted when I put the lift in. Now to find a deal on tires and wheels......
Wylecoyote where you located. Tires are cheap online but shipping is the killer. How high are you planning on going. remember if you go with procomp and you want to go more than 6inches you will need the 6in leaf. It is different then then leafs that come with the actual 6in kit. I made that mistake.
I have a ProComp 6" and I'm very happy with it other than I wish the rear was a bit higher it does sag a bit. The ride quality is a bit stiffer than stock but not to bad. You'll be happy with ProComp.
