Hey everyone! i am an owner of a 94 7.3L idi turbo diesel. I am trying to find some pictures of any build ups of around the same year and motor. Currently I have installled a full 4" exhaust from the downpipe back and a custom intake with a cone filter. I just did some timing work and she runs like a dream! I am still looking for any more ideas on how to achieve more power?!? I have 285/75/R16 Big O Big Foot X terrian tires on it. It does great in the mud. i would like to talk to some more people who are trying to mod the same rig. There are not to many after market parts so any advice will help! Thanks

Are you still running the flattened out stock Ford downpipe?

The cone filter inside the engine compartment is not helping you make more power. The air is not being pushed into the turbo, and it is warmer than air from outside the engine compartment would be.

I had a '94 IDI TD a couple of years ago. Best truck I ever owned. Anyways, I added an ATS turbo housing w/ 3" downpipe (The stock down pipe is REALLY restrictive) then 4" straight back from there. After doing all that, the truck ran like a raped ape.
Sadly, I went through a couple of trannys and sold it and bought an 04 6.0L 6 speed.
Man, I miss my old truck!

I made this for my 86, it works well.
The only time it must be unhooked is when I am driving in snow. It covers the air cleaner with a layer of snow until it chokes the engine.

I am running the stock ATS filter housing on the engine with this setup, it works good.

Has anyone tried incorporating the ram air intake into a hood scoop?

It has been discissed several times.
Two major downsides is the fact the intake and air cleaner are below the hood which makes rain an issue.
With the scoop located lower than the intake the water does not make it up to the air cleaner.

Second issue is the height of the hood scoop that would be required to get the scoop opening up into the air stream. With the air flow over the hood for a hood scoop to work it would have to be located right at the front of the hood or be rather tall.

On my 86 when driving in the rain at 70 MPH, the bottom half of the windshield don't get much water on it. So for a hood scoop to be effective it would have to be about one foot tall to the bottom of the scoop.
If you have a bug deflector on the front, the rain don't even hit the windshield at higher speeds, so it would have to be even taller.

Several times cowl induction have also been discussed. There is a slight high pressure area at the bottom of the windshield, but it would have to be much larger in that area and rain is still an issue. Also the plumbing to hook it up would be much harder and have to make a 180 degree bend which would add restriction to the air flow.

There are several members that have gone different routes with the air intake plumbing, but we are all using the front of the truck as a starting place.
