I currently have the 4.9l, but I want to drop in a 351W, I've located one for a decent price..... what all do I need to complete the swap? I know I need motor mounts... I've heard that I can use my tranny (Auto w/ Overdrive) what else is needed?
Shouldn't be too much trouble. You have an AOD tranny which means it is not electronic. Problems inlcude hooking AOD cable or linkage that controls the OD (it looks like a kick-down linkage or cable but it is not) where it hooks to the carb, electrical, for ignition and FI if you have it, new fly wheel and flex plate, exhaust etc.... There are a few more but not sure with that year truck and don't know year of 351. Hope this helps and Good Luck,
Rick

I've been told that the xmember/motor mounts are significantly different for the I6............so you may be looking at grinding rivets. Can anyone confirm this?
The AOD doesn't bolt up to the 351W. Something about the flex plates being different heights. Two or three people have tried, all wound up burning up the AOD in short order. There was a work-around that they figured out eventually, but by that point, no one was interested in continuing with the project, opting for a C6 instead.
Additionally, if you want to keep EFI, stick with a truck motor. There's a good bit of wiring to be done regardless in your case, but the van engine harness dumps near the water neck, which is pretty inconvenient in a truck.
The swap from an I-6 to V-8 isn't too bad. You will need to get the motor and frame mounts from a V-8 truck, and a rear sump oil pan with pick up tube. The correct flywheel for the motor, be careful if this is a 302, as they changed the imbalance on some of the years. I reused the radiator from the 6, but had to fabricate the right hoses.
