Hey guys, just joined. This is my first post. I can finally say I'm a part of the Ford Truck Family. Gotta real good deal on a 95 F150 xlt 2wd from my wife's Grandfather. I'm a newbie so forgive me if this post is in the wrong place. I'm pumped!
Might as well ask. I am thinking about changing the exhaust from the stock. I'd like a dual exhaust but am totally ignorant about what to get. any suggestions?
You can search around a bit Josh but I have been trying to get a straight forward answer on this topic for a very long time. Unfortunately, everyone here likes to have very different kinds of exhaust system so theres no real trend; because of this I've still yet to decide which exhaust system I want, heh. But try the search function, might find some useful information. Welcome to FTE!
Welcome to the forums, and you are definitely in the right place. Quicklook is right about giving the truck the 'onceover" before moving on to the exhaust mods. Especially important is to get the front end up in the air and shake down all of the components up front. be sure to check the radius arm bushings as well. Out back, be sure to examine the rear hangers for the leaf springs as they are especially prone to rusting completely in two. Fortunately, the replacement job isn't terrible, and the parts are easy to come by at any Ford dealer, since they are so prone to rust.
As far as exhaust, true straight back dual exhaust is pretty darn dificult, due to all of the obstructions under the truck, not to mention the emmissions system requirements. Several companies make systems that use a dual outlet muffler, and exhaust shops can make a y- pipe to install past the cat if you really want to use two mufflers. I had a friend who had a muffler shop make him a y-pipe after the cat directly into two tailpipes. (no muffler at all) He really liked the sound, though I'd say it was a bit loud for my personal taste in a daily driver.
