What do you guys consider overloaded? I can keep my pickup under its gvwr and still gross nearly 40k, and as far as I know the gvwr is the only rating recognized by the dot.
I have a trailer that is rated for 30k and has the brakes to deal with the wieght.
i tow a 06 Montana 5er, with 4 slides, weighs in at 13.5K fully loaded. and it tows very nice, with no tune, stopping is easy with the brake controller, this summer will be even better with the dp 40 tune and the EBPV brake and air bags.
in my opinion, anthing over 15K is some major weight and needs an F450 to take care of buisness, now......yes, you can put a 20k trailer behind a 7.3, but you will only do it a few times before your tranny goes, drive shaft goes, rear springs go and
so on and so fourth, its only a matter of time for any weight really, even my 13K over time is going to kill my tranny and a few other parts.
WEIGHT x TIME = MONEY
i see car hauler guys with a 48' trailer hooked up to a dually towing 3 excursions!!! now that has to be over 30000lbs.
i have a friend back home that has a 2005 dodge 4x4 diesel dually auto that hauls cars for a living. he logged over 80k miles on his truck with NO problems, towing a 48' 3 car hauler at times and mostly a 53' 4 car hauler!! he pulled over 30k lbs many many times. just thought i would chime in.
