Depends mostly on your experiance. My old man and i did it in a day. But we had all the tools and my old mad has been a mechanic is whole life. We didnt have a vehicle lift... did it on our backs on the floor. The worst part is the top bolts on the bell housing... there really tough to get...and the tranfer case is tricky to get proped up out of the way... but it can be done....
the reason i know is i just did myne about 4000 miles ago.... damn bearing in the tranny droped out and pretty much ruined the whole thing... ****ty thing was it happend the weekend before i moved up to college...
let me know if you need anymore advice... all in all the job aint bad.. .make sure that the tranny your putting in has all the same sensor hookups... i ran into a few of those when i did it.
I only took out the cross member for the trans. I ended up unbolting the tranfer case completley and moving it up completley on top of its cross member, because normally the back end only sits on it. that way it was out of the way and i didnt have to use a jack and lower it out of the way. it was tricky and would be just as easy probably to remove it was well. especialy if you are by your self. So i just took out one crossmember.
