Exclamation Sweet smell while ideling?

I have a 99 F250 Sd SB lariat V10
I got it in November and it has always had a sweet smell while ideling. It can only be noticed outside the cab and usually on the exhaust side. It reminds me of the sweet smell you get about the same time your windows fog up and your passangers feet get wet . But I am not loosing coolant. I have placed a mark on my recovery tank and I have not lost a drop of coolant in over 3 months. Could it be a CAT issue?

Yeah, usually a cat will stink though. Nothing sweet about it. That rotten egg smell. Is your cat rattling? If you stand by the exhaust and have someone hold the throttle at 2 grand, can you still smell it? Is your rad cap on tight? Have you opened up the radiator when the engine's cold and made sure it was full? I don't know man, that's a pretty unique smell. I'm sure other's will chime in.

i think its normal. on my X, V10, especially when its cold and the engine is in closed loop?, there will be a very rich smell from the exhaust. once it warms up, it goes away. if that is what yours is doing, its normal.

Sounds to me like you are describing the #1 symptom of coolant in your combustion chamber. It takes very little to create the smell, you might not even notice the loss for a while.

It could be a blown head gasket or an intake manifold problem.

Im pretty sure the smell I sense has nothing to do with coolant. I rarely notice the smell any more but its not a coolant smell.

However, now that I think of it.. I have a leak somewhere in my exhaust system. My truck has aftermarket headers and thats where I believe the exhaust leak is coming from. I've been told that headers always never seal properly and eventually creates a exhaust leak?? The exhaust leak noise is only noticable when I accelerate.
