Smile better 6.9L

OK, yall have told me of one 6.9 better than the other. The later models 6.9 is a better bet to rebuild. I am having trouble explaining to wrecking yards about the pronounced dipstick entry, and the counterbored heat plug hole. They say it is, then I drive over and it isn't. Costing me a lot of leg work. Is there a stamp number on the engine I can go by, or what year did they start making the better version. If they want to make a sale, maybe I can convince them to look at a stamped number before I take another wild goose chase. I live in texas therefore, there is a major language barrier issue with most wrecking yards. Maybe this will help in my quest. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
