I found a 90 F250 for $1000.00. It has a straight six with I believe a 4 speed manual transmission, two minor oil leaks, and some interior damage. I haven't heard it run yet, but if it runs good is it worth $1,000?
Until I looked at it the other day I never knew ford made a straight six. According to this forum the straight six is a pretty stout engine. The only thing I know about inline engines is that they are good for torque.
can run for ever if maintained. is it 4wd? even if it's a 2wd, and the clucth and trans work, body isn't destroyed, a 1000 seems fair. try to take it down as far as you can of course.
I got my 84f150 with a 300 for $250 The brakes were shot and it needed a new clutch but it was a sweet deal. If everything sounds good, it drives well, clutch and body is in good shape i think a lil under 1000 is pretty good
I got an 88 F150 in about that same condition for $900, but it hadn't run in a couple months and the engine was sludged up. $1000 sounds good to me. These engines will run forever and tow a mountain (if you can get it on a trailer)!
Thanks for the input. I looked at again today and needs more work on the interior than I originally thought. The odometer also says 90,000 miles, not sure how accurate that is but according to some post the engine may still have 200,000 miles left. I am going on vacation in a month and if it is still there when I get back, I am going to start with an offer of $500 and see what he says.
I picked up my 86 f150 I6 for $100 3 years ago. Over that time I have sunk about 2k into it, but its the best running truck I have ever had. I pull a wood chipper and a bed full of wood chips or cutup logs and it pulls like there aint no tomorrow.
Best running truck I have ever had. Has 190K miles on it.
I guess what I am trying to say is an I6 if maintained will run forever.
My truck is in pretty good condition for its age and mileage. I got hit in the front a few months ago and looked up the value and it was less than $100 (yes, hundred). On paper these trucks are nearly worthless and you should use that to your advantage. In the real world they are worth much more, but the seller may not know that if you print off a report. You also need to have it checked by a mechanic before you buy. It's not a deal if it needs $2k in work to be safe and reliable before you can drive it.
