I posted this in the transmission forum, but as yet no comments. I have a 1996 F150 with a manual trans. I am thinking of changing to an automatic. My question is to the reliability of the autos for this year, and are there other better units that will work without modifications? Thanks. jd
There will be a LOT of work and you WILL want a 96 donor vehicle to grab all of the parts.
The post 94 E4ODs are very stout units. A 96 will be a great unit. As I have read up on them, they are actually better in most cases for the torque curve. If you are willing to accept a torque converter as well as not being able to shift for yourself, then this will be a good swap.
There are a few guys that have done it around and after reading about the E4OD I have decided to stay an auto.
