Brandok,
I have a 2001 F250SD with a V10 and went through this issue as well. I have an after market K&N filter. I posted my problem to this site and tried all the suggestions, took my truck to several mechanics and nothing seemed to work. The dealer was so bold as to suggest it was my K&N filter. I tried all the suggestions posted, and anything else I could find from surfing the net. What finally worked was a recommendation from a former Ford mechanic who is a friend. He suggested that I try using Chevron Premium fuel. That cured my problem. It is wierd as no other premium fuels seem to work. Don't know if that will cure your problem but ultimately it worked for me when nothing else would.
stupid question....do you mean 1 tank of Cheveron premium cured your problem, or that you have to run Chevron premium from now on to keep it from pinging?
haven tried the chevron thing yet but if it worked i would have to stick with it but my thoughts are that the truck is meant to run on 87 octane at least that is what it says in my manuel so my thought is there is something wrong with it but for know i wil try the gas thanks brandon
The V10's are very picky on the fuel you use. I use 87, but have to change brands depending on what season it is, also in different states I have had to use a different octane to stop the pinging.
I've never had a problem with pinging no matter if i get fuel from Costco, Chevron, BP, or wherever. Then again, there is no ethanol in the gas up here.
